VISION Dynamic Processes FAQ
From the beginning, we have heard the demand from users to be able to adapt their experience in VISION to their own processes. We have spent the last three years working with Army Applications Lab and VISION users to understand how to standardize the joint innovation data to be able to report out on the incredible impact of efforts while simultaneously increasing the collaboration happening across the services. The time has come to introduce the newest feature to VISION: Dynamic Processes. This includes two major portions: 1) A significant overhaul of the innovation pipeline in VISION for all users, and 2) the ability to create unique processes specifically for organizations on a case-by-case basis.

What is the default VISION pipeline?
With the addition of Dynamic Processes for VISION, users will now experience a more detailed innovation pipeline that allows for granularity of initiatives’ state to communicate progress and outcomes. This pipeline was built to meet the needs of the vast majority of initiatives in VISION and will include new phases and statuses that reflect the major steps VISION users take in bringing their innovative ideas to life.
Reference statuses and phases in Dynamic Processes definitions if needed to explain the pipeline.
What will change for users within the application?
The new default pipeline in VISION will replace the legacy “Phase” data on all initiatives with new “Status” and associated “Phase” data. All existing initiatives will be migrated to the new default VISION Innovation pipeline, and managers will be able to adjust settings to reflect the state of initiatives within their portfolio. While users will see the additional data reflected on their initiatives, there will be minimal impact to how users interact with their initiatives. Rather, these changes give users the ability to better communicate where they are in the innovative process while giving managers and leaders better visibility of the status of their portfolios.
How do I build a customized pipeline?
Dynamic Processes lays the groundwork for significant customization of existing pipelines and processes within VISION. If your organization has unique needs, we would love to set up an individualized discussion to explore options.
How do I see what hasn’t been accepted into a pipeline?
After the transition to the default pipeline in VISION, new initiatives will first need to be accepted by a manager, who will then apply the appropriate status and phase data. This reinforces the value of maintaining active managers within the ecosystem that have the best understanding of the strategic impact of initiatives within their portfolio.
How will this change how I manage projects moving forward?
Managers will now have a ‘Manage’ button instead of the legacy ‘Action’ button that they used to manage initiatives. When clicked, managers will be able to accept, transfer or archive initiatives. Once accepted, the managers will be able to select a pipeline that is available to them and update the initiative with the appropriate status and phase designations. Ultimately, this reaffirms the critical role managers play within VISION to ensure project data is accurate and updated appropriately. I am a team lead, what changes about the data I can manage?
As a team lead, once the initiative is accepted you will be able to update the status as well as leave notes on the initiative and see the history of the changes that have been made. Your role is crucial in keeping the data on your initiative up to date so that other users know exactly how they can work with your team!
How can I see who made the most recent updates to my specific initiative?
Team members can click ‘View Details’ on the left-hand side of the initiative. Historical updates are visible under ‘History’.
Lead team members can click ‘Manage’ in the top right corner on an initiative once it is accepted and have the ability to see recent notes as well as the history of the project.
